Resources To Learn About Investment
Khan Academy
I recommend watching Finance and Capital Markets in particular. That section covers things like interest rates, home loans, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and a lot more. It covers the foundational financial knowledge that everyone should have, in my opinion. These fundamental concepts help me better understand the news, government policies, online finance articles, etc. Salman is extremely good at breaking down complex concepts into smaller pieces.
Zerodha Varsity
It’s a series of free books focussed on teaching everything from stocks, options, futures to personal finance. The explanations are easy to read and have detailed calculations, so I didn’t miss any detail. I’ve read all the books till the commodity one, but I still have to go through the latest ones. They’re available as PDFs or as articles. The articles have comments/questions which the author has answered in detail. I found many of those comments to help clarify concepts, so I would recommend reading all these books online with the comments.
Option Alpha
Kirk starts from the basics of options and ramps up to advanced-level topics applicable to investing in general. I found his ideas on diversification, capital allocation, portfolio and loss management extremely helpful in shaping my trading style. His explanations for options and all the other topics I listed are the best ones I found online. I’m a huge fan of how he breaks down complex concepts and explains them so simply. I would also recommend listening to his podcast.
Podcasts
- Optimal Finance Daily - Will provide a daily dose of personal finance. In each 6-10 min episode, the author reads one good personal finance article. If you were to remember one recommendation out of all, I recommend this one.
- MAD Fientist - In-depth discussion about financial independence. The episodes are fewer than I expected, but each one has high-quality discussions and questions from the host. I listen to this one when my mind is active and in the mood to think deeply.
- Choose FI - Good topic coverage on financial independence, building wealth and making rational financial decisions.
- Listen Money Matters - The episodes have comprehensive coverage of personal finance discussions. I found them helpful in shaping my thought process.
Simplicity is the key. The choice of creators I have chosen to highlight here reflects how highly I value simplicity. Karthik Rangappa, Kirk Du Plessis, and Salman Khan all have my respect for keeping their content so straightforward.
