Podcast Recommendations
Podcasts are essential to my workflow. They keep me entertained during my chores and walks. And they’re usually interviews with successful people explaining how they did things, so that’s a great exposure to ideas everyday.
Here are some of my favourite podcasts that I listen regularly:
- Planet Money - They pick something from our daily lives and explain the economics behind it. Episodes are usually ~20 min, have a great story to go with them and hosts are nice.
- The Indicator - It’s from the creators of Planet Money but has daily episodes of ~10 min.
- Optimal Finance Daily - Skip the first minute of ads. The author picks an insightful article on finance and reads it daily. I love the choice of articles and the ideas in them. Episodes are mostly less than 10 minutes and if the article is too big, they divide it into 2-3 episodes.
- Not Overthinking - Two guys overthinking about life, career, friendships and success. They’re more intelligent, accomplished and mature than me, so I like hearing their opinions on different topics.
- The Tim Ferris Show - Tim is an excellent interviewer and has great questions for his guests. His guests are top performers in their field and Tim tries to understand what makes them tick. Episodes are usually 2+ hours long.
- Hidden Brain - Shankar explores one question or concept of psychology in each episode ~30 min. Shankar designs the episodes as a narrative rather than a free form interview, which I love. He also has nice story-telling skills which makes everything more enjoyable.
- TED Radio Hour - Awesome explorations into questions about life. Guy and Manoush both are great hosts. I liked listening to Manoush’s old podcast Note To Self back in the days. I listen to this one when in mood for deep conversations, not as often as the ones above. Episodes are usually ~1 hour.
- Option Alpha Podcast - This guy is underrated and very intelligent. I learned options trading and a lot more financial concepts from him. He’s smart, answers questions honestly, directly and usually plans out episodes in advance so they follow a good structure.
- Astonishing Legends - 2 guys presenting extremely in-depth research about paranormal legends. Their clarity of research is unmatched. They present everything at an entertaining pace, and is fun to listen on walks.
- You Are Not So Smart - He explores a logical fallacy or some shortcoming of the human brain in each episode. Listening to all the ways in which our mind deceives itself is intriguing.
- WVFRM - By MKBHD from YouTube. I like hearing him talk about technology and have been seeing his YT videos since 8 years now. Their discussion is a hit or miss, but generally fun.
- Matti and Pete Show - Peter Mckinnon’s podcast. I love watching his YouTube videos and listening to his ideas. This podcast is a way to know him more personally.
- Zero To Travel - Awesome interviews about people who’re travelling and how they’re managing to do it.
- Go Time - Great Go related talks, best Go podcast out there
- Huberman Lab - Stanford professor goes through scientific literature for optimizing his life and habits.
- Coding Blocks - Nice and knowledgeable hosts, good dad jokes, and a wide selection of programming discussions
- On Purpose - I like his upbeat, positive attitude and like listening to him when I feel burnt out.
- Bigger Pockets Business - They interiew people who did something cool with their business, it’s great to see how other people did it. Nice show for business model ideas.
- Honourable Mentions - JRE Podcast, Note To Self, and The Ground Up Show.
My list of subscriptions is a lot bigger than this list. It’s not like I listen to every single episode of these podcasts. I just go in, download what I want and listen to those episodes.
